Hey fellow fantasy lovers,
As summer ends and autumn vibes roll in, I’ve been hunting for fantasy manga that feel fresh but aren’t yet getting tons of hype. I found a few that I think deserve more attention:
• Kai-hen Wizards — Started in Sept 2024. The setting is “oriental fantasy” with a mysterious boy covered in bandages who arrives at a wizard’s remote castle. The world-threat arc is just beginning, and the art + lore are really pulling me in.
• The Cynical Knight and Gentle Princess: Building Fairy Homes and a Life Together — Romance + fantasy with nice slice-of-life moments (fairy houses, castle life) but also decent worldbuilding and character growth. Started Nov 2023.
• Magical Girl Dandelion — Magical girl genre but darker tones; monsters, mystery, magical duties. Began Aug 2024. If you like fantasy with a mix of magical girl tropes + stakes, this is one to watch.
• Centuria — Dark fantasy, very raw start. The MC has past trauma, the setting is cruel, the supernatural elements are horrifying but well-drawn. Started April 2024. Volumes are coming out steadily.
Which fantasy manga have you started recently that seem underrated? Or which of these are you already reading and think more people should know about? Also, any fantasy manga launching in fall 2025 that you’re hyped for?
